Arthur!

In this map, you play the role of the young King Arthur, before he was actually king. You must avoid being captured, obtain weapons to fight, and then take your final battle to King Lot to earn your kingship. For those long-time Macintosh users, you may remember this story from long ago. This level is based upon one of the first text adventure games on the Mac (also called "Arthur!").
  • You start near the church; avoid the archer arrows, and enter the church
  • Pray at the cross (action key) to get double-shields
  • Exit the church and enter the tavern across the street
  • After talking with the tavern keeper, go outside around the back of the tavern to release the switch holding the tavern keeper prisoner
  • Return to the tavern, and the tavern keeper should have unlocked the kitchen
  • Enter the kitchen, open the storage unit and grab the first scroll
  • Return to the street, go west until you reach the Pavilion
  • The pavilion is locked, so go around the back and climb the crates to enter in through the window
  • Pick up the wand and read the terminal, then exit to the street
  • Continue west until you leave town
  • Go north into the apple orchard and battle the invisible knight
  • Take the road east by the cottage, and enter the cottage
  • Pick up the axe, and read the terminal to unlock the bedroom door
  • Enter the bedroom and save the game
  • Exit the cottage, go west along the path until you reach an opening in the forest that leads to some caves
  • Enter the caves and talk to Merlin (this will also open another cave entrance to another scroll)
  • You must have Excalibur to free the scroll in the cave, so exit the cave and return to the apple orchard
  • Take the forest path north until you reach a chasm
  • Jump across the chasm to the north, and collect the crossbow, arrows, and another wand
  • Jump back across the chasm to the south, head south to the opening, then go west to the Glade (careful of the attacking fairy)
  • Read the terminal in the glade wall (this opens a path to the ivory tower)
  • Head east to the opening, then head further east along the rock wall
  • At the end of the rock wall on the left is a path; take this path north to the ivory tower
  • Head north into the ivory tower until you reach the wooden platform
  • Take the platform down to the basement, go to the right, then right, and save your game
  • Take the platform all the way up, and fight off the two tower guards
  • Go up the stairs, turn right, then right, and go talk to Merlin
  • Return to the top of the stairs, then continue west to the vertical stairway to the roof
  • Go up to the roof, fight the two sorcerers, then enter the roof storage to retrieve a key
  • Go back down the stairs, return to the platform, and jump out of the platform, east, to the first floor, then exit the ivory tower
  • Take the path west back to the open area, then go south to the forest area with the attacking trees
  • Take the forest path east until you reach an opening with a large tree and a raven
  • Enter the base of the tree and climb your way to the top (look down at the floor, and carefully step where you see a rise in the floor until you get to the top)
  • At the very top is a next with some eggs, so use the axe to break the eggs, and retrieve another key
  • Descend the tree, take the forest path west back to the attacking trees, and go south to the apple orchard
  • Continue south, past the town, and into the lake
  • Swim under the lake to the south, then read the Kraken terminal in the wall to the west
  • After reading the terminal, a cave opens to the west, enter the cave and swim up to the ledge
  • On the ledge, walk around until you find a scroll, then swim back to the town entrance (avoid the Kracken)
  • Go east down the town street, enter the church for more health if you need it
  • Cross the bridge to the castle gate, then go south along the castle wall to the back of the town Smithy
  • Circle around the ledge of the smith, counter clockwise, until you get to the south side, and enter the Smithy
  • Go east and read the Smith's message (this opens the door to Sentinel Island)
  • Drop into the hole in the ground, and take the underground passage until you reach a door
  • Flip the switch at the door to activate the door maze, then enter the maze:
    • Go right, follow the path until you reach 2 doors
    • Take the door on the right (might have to wait for door to open)
    • Follow the path until you reach another 2 doors
    • Again, take the door on the right (might have to wait for door to open)
    • Follow the path to a single door, and go through the door (might have to wait for door to open)
    • Continue in a straight line, ignoring the door on the left
    • Now follow this path until you get to 2 doors, and go through door on right (might have to wait for door to open)
    • Go straight and enter the next door (might have to wait for door to open)
    • Follow this path to a T-intersection and turn right
    • Follow this path until you reach a fork in the road, and take the south-most path (left side)
    • At the end of this dead end path is a scroll, so pick it up, then backtrack to the T-intersection
    • Continue west, follow the path right, and right, and then drop into the hole
    • You are now in the badger maze, to follow this path until you find the caged badger
    • Use your axe to break the bars on the cage
    • Now walk backwards, backtracking the path, and watch the badger
    • The badger will eventually find a hidden exit, and then you use this exit

  • You are now in the lake, so swim north until you reach a ledge in front of the castle that is low enough to jump upon
  • Head east through town, go north to the cottage, and save your game
  • Now return to the town, go behind the pavilion, and go south to Sentinel Island (prepare to fight a gold knight)
  • Use one of your keys to unlock the door
  • Go through the door, and talk to the Lady of the Lake (this opens a path to Excalibur)
  • Grab Excalibur, and swim back to the ledge in front of the castle, return to the cottage and save your game
  • Exit the cottage, go east, and drop into the hole
  • Make your way through the forest maze until you reach a platform:
    • The maze is made of up several octogons
    • Go north 4 octogons
    • Go east 1 octogon
    • Go northwest 1 octogon
    • Go west 2 octogons
    • Go south 1 octogon
    • Go west 1 octogon
    • Go north 1 octogon
    • Go northeast 1 octogon
    • Go east 2 octogons
    • Go southeast 1 octogon
    • Go east 1 octogon
    • Go south 2 octogons
    • Southeast is the exit platform, wait for the platform, and take it up

  • Fight the black knight
  • Enter the Dragon's Lair to the north, and go to the left into the Cold Room
  • Avoid the ice shards and grab the scroll
  • Return to the Dragon's Lair and go across to the other side to the Hot Room
  • Avoid the fireballs, and run south to the water (the water will teleport you back to town)
  • Go to the cottage and save your game
  • Return to Merlin's cave, and use Excalibur to break the bars holding the 5th scroll
  • Take the scroll, then return to the Ivory tower
  • Take the platform up, and talk to Merlin (this enables the lock to the castle gate)
  • Exit the ivory tower, return to the town, and cross the bridge to the castle gate
  • Use your key to unlock the gate, then enter the castle to go to the next level

Eye Candy / Extras

  • When standing in the church, you'll notice occasional white flashes (this is you being blessed)
  • Eat apples to give yourself a boost in health, and apples regenerate
  • Super potions are carry items that auto-activate when your health gets very low (gives you a 2x boost)
  • In the tavern kitchen, there are arrows, a 3x potion, and some apples
  • Don't waste ammo on the rampart archers, because they regenerate
  • In the pavilion, there are water vials, a super potion, and a 2x potion
  • Enter the Sorcerer's Study across from the pavilion where you can change the spell on your wand to one of 4 different spells
  • In the smithy, there are arrows behind the desk in the first room, and an invisibility potion in the 2nd room
  • In the smithy door maze, there is another wand just east of where the door maze exit hole is
  • In the smithy door maze, there is a maze spiral in the west where you can collect arrows and a 3x potion (the end teleports you to the smithy tunnel)
  • There are apples in the apple orchard as well as on the window sill of the cottage
  • There are water vials in the south outside Merlin's caven, and there is a 2x potion in the north end of the cave
  • In the forest chasm to the north, if you fall into the chasm, you'll find an axe amongst some dead bodies, and a teleporter to the east to get out of the chasm
  • There is a secret leprechaun stash in the ivory tower basement:
    • Take the platform to the basement
    • Enter the large barrel room, and watch as a leprechaun runs out of the wall, and opens a secret passage
    • You must follow the leprechaun through the secret passage (she only comes out once, so you will not get a second chance)
    • In the secret area, to the right, you'll find arrows, water vials, 2x potion, 3x potion, an apple and a super potion

  • The rats in the basement do not attack
  • Outside the Dragon's Lair, you'll notice this area is covered in fog, there are apples around the trees, and behind the ledge is a 2x potion and a Dragon's Lair poem
  • There are apples and one super potion in the forest maze
  • There is a forest nook north east of the forest maze entrance that has some arrows
  • The ivory tower sorcerers drop potions when they die
  • At the exit of the forest maze, there is a waterfall to the north, but you cannot reach the waterfall
