In a previous version of EMR, I was able to use a popup menu to pick colors, and other preference options. Now I don't see any popups. How do I change/select an option?

Unfortunately, the SDL version of AlephOne does not currently use popup menus (only the NIBs version does). You have to click on the value to change it, and you can also go forward and backward through the selections by using the left and right arrows.

In previous versions of EMR, when saving a game, the default filename used to be selected, and I could just type over it to rename the saved game. Now it's not selected, and neither the mouse nor double-clicking highlights the input field. What happened?

Unfortunately, the SDL version of AlephOne does not currently use an intuitive save dialog (only the NIBs version does). You have to place the mouse over the filename to get the insertion cursor, and then you can either press the delete key to delete one character at a time, or press Ctrl-U to delete the entire field - then type in the new name.

In previous versions of EMR, when loading a saved game, the load dialog used to list the filenames with creation dates that allowed me to see which was the most recent saved file, and also allowed me to sort by the date. Now all I see is a list of names, and no date column. How do I figure out which saved game was the latest?

Only the NIBs version of EMR includes the "Date" column. Unfortunately, the SDL version of AlephOne does not currently use a very savvy load dialog. If you are playing the SDL version, you either have to remember the name of your latest game, or you can quit from the game, and browse the folder manually to determine the dates of the files. In the Mac SDL version, the location of these saved games is in ~/Library/Applications Support/AlephOne/Saved Games/ (NIBs saved games are in your ~/Documents/ folder).

In EMR 2, when saving a game with the same name as an existing game, the overwrite prompt defaulted to "replace", so I could just press RETURN to replace. In EMR 3 this no longers works. Any nice shortcuts for keyboarders?

If you are playing the NIBs version, you can press the Return or Enter key when saving the game (defaults to "Save"), and then use Cmd-R to replace. If you are playing the SDL version, you can press Return (not the Enter key) at both prompts. This defaults "OK" on the save dialog, and defaults "Yes" when asked to overwrite the existing file.

What do the function keys do in EMR?

From the Aleph One manual:
